Letter to the editor: Trump, Musk don't need politics for money

Tribune-Review

The writer of the letter “System is rigged for Trump and Musk” (Dec. 31, TribLive) seems to have a problem with wealthy people. I don’t. Many wealthy people make things possible in the lives of everyday people that would not be possible otherwise. Sure, they make a lot of money, but they also take the financial risk of failure, which most of us would never do.

Both President Trump and Elon Musk amassed their fortunes before they got into politics. They have relatively little to gain financially from being in office. Trump doesn’t even take a paycheck for being president. The last president to do this was John Kennedy, who was also wealthy.

Perhaps the writer prefers President Biden and the many other politicians who got wealthy after they took office. Nancy Pelosi’s net worth went from $24 million in 2008 to $115 million in 2018. Did she use her position as speaker of the House to build her wealth? It’s hard to believe otherwise.
