Letter to the editor: Trump must be sanctioned

As I watch the news I notice how many GOP senators and representatives wish to stop the impeachment of President Trump and for any criminal charges to be dropped. Due to the fact they feel it will split the country more? Sorry, but in my opinion, they are just trying to protect the money Trump has made for them, because if he goes into a lengthy trial or there are civil charges, he will surely insist the RNC pay for all the lawyers, staff, and researchers it will take to litigate. That is the way this man seems to work: He pays for nothing out of his own pocket.

If you can’t get votes to impeach him, he needs sanctions placed on him — no pension or million-dollar travel allowances, just a few select Secret Service personnel for one year. He can build his own library — but I wonder why he would, since he isn’t known for reading.

It is time for representatives of both parties to take responsibility for the mess they have made in this country. It’s a new year; time to clean up.
