Letter to the editor: Trump no patriot

For those who only watch and listen to extreme right-wing news sources, I hope the impeachment hearings were their come-to-Jesus moment. The United States has been led by a crackpot, not a patriot the last four years. President Trump’s words, threats and continued rhetoric to gather the gullible conspiracists toward violence happened.

Is this now what the GOP has become? With this stain the GOP will be forever known for breaking windows, building a gallows to attempt to murder the vice president, killing and/or hurting over 100 police officers, and desecrating the Capitol. Trump rioters dressed up as fake soldiers, some wearing colorful costumes with despicable logos and waving flags of dissent … to accomplish what?

I’m disheartened that there is mainly silence from the religious sect (Greensburg/Pittsburgh dioceses) and local politicians (Rep. Guy Reschenthaler). The United States has only the potential to be a great country. It can only happen if Americans can get together, not by their criminal actions displayed on Jan. 6. The question is, as quoted by a Capitol policeman in tears, “Is this America?” The answer may be that it is.

Voters must never be conned again and sucked in to the selfishness of a person who serves himself and not the country.
