I think Bob Serena’s letter “Trump is protecting our country” (April 9, TribLIVE) is bunk.

Truth is not an exercise in myopic partisanship. If Serena had followed his own advice to “do your research before you write,” he might have read The Wall Street Journal or Christian Science Monitor, or perhaps even checked out the websites of the Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, and so on.

President Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic was two months late and thousands of American lives short. It was, and still is, inexcusable.

Trump initially dismissed the seriousness of covid-19.

What kind of leadership is that?

Serena also maintains “Trump has done more to protect this country than the last five presidents combined.” But didn’t Republican chief executives Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush bring the former Soviet Union to its knees? That, my friend, was protection.
