Letter to the editor: Trump shirks, deflects, takes credit
Trump sought to take credit for the coronavirus relief package passed by Congress by, in an unprecedented move, having his name put on IRS checks issued to the public as part of that bill. Here’s a modest proposal that makes more sense: Trump’s name should appear on death certificates of victims of covid-19 under cause of death.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has said plainly that, had the administration heeded clear warnings and acted earlier on the recommendations of health experts, “you could have saved lives.” A study from Columbia University projects 54,000 people who have died from covid-19 would still be alive today if social distancing guidelines had been enacted at the beginning of March when Trump still was downplaying the threat — “it will go away.”
Harry Truman said of the presidency, “The buck stops here.” But Trump is nothing but a PR man who wants to gaslight America into giving him credit that he is not due while he shirks responsibility and deflects the blame he has earned.
