Letter to the editor: Trump should be ashamed
In every ward, precinct and voting district throughout the United States, there is a judge of elections who certifies the votes after both Democrats and Republicans count the votes. Likewise, at the county and state levels, both parties count the votes with poll watchers overseeing the process. It’s very difficult to cheat.
Does President Trump actually believe only one party counts the votes? Yet he persists with the “big lie.” His claim is an affront to every patriotic poll watcher in this country, but in his “me first” world, that’s irrelevant.
His own attorney general, 50 federal judges and the Supreme Court found no evidence or proof of election fraud. Even the firm commissioned by the Republican-controlled Arizona Legislature found that Trump had 99 fewer votes and Biden 266 more votes. It’s been over a year, and still no proof of fraud anywhere.
The only evidence of fraud was Trump’s recorded conversation with the Georgia secretary of state in which he demanded that he “find” 12,000 votes so Trump could win the state. This is a crime, plain and simple. Yet as with so many other tramplings of the law, Trump gets away with it. If any other president pulled the stunts he’s pulled, he would have been shamed out of office.
Instead, Americans were aghast and shamed as small groups of European leaders at a 2019 European economic summit literally laughed at him as he strode through the room. It was embarrassing to watch. They knew he was a “joke,” something our own Republican Party doesn’t seem to recognize.
