Perhaps letter-writer R. Ritchey (“Jesus, too, criticizes the elite,” Oct. 23, TribLIVE) should read the Scriptures.

The Pharisees had the mandate of teaching and safeguarding God’s laws as given to Moses. Our Congress is mandated to represent our people and to protect and represent our Constitution. Both groups have failed.

Jesus berated the Pharisees. President Trump has berated Congress. But long before becoming president, Trump was — and is — an elitist; therefore, a Pharisee himself. As such, he’s only added to the stumbling block of government.

The Pharisees allowed the temple to become a place of business rather than a place of worship. Our Congress has allowed party bias to overshadow their mandate of representing the public. Trump has added to this chaos by slandering all who disagree with or criticize him. Jesus acted for the people; Trump acts for himself.
