Letter to the editor: Trump vs. reality
I always find it interesting that sometimes when the editors publish a letter that is critical of Donald Trump, a supporter of his counters with some absurd reply claiming that “Trump derangement syndrome” is to blame. Whatever that is. I assume it is a made-up mental condition Trump himself has coined to object to anyone who disagrees with his nonstop habit of lies, nonsense and corruption. His supporters of course digest anything Trump says as truth. Yet we are the ones that are considered deranged.
It seems to me that Trump has created a facade of himself. Painting a portrait of perfection and greatness, indicating that only he can be the savior of the ills of society. He has convinced legions to hate what he hates. His conceived enemies are your enemies. Authoritarians like Trump are narcissists that desire power and adulation. His misguided supporters and the Republican Party provide that.
That is the real mental condition. That and the blind eye and devotion to a very flawed man who makes promises he knows he can’t keep. He throws child-king tantrums and insults toward anything or anybody who disagrees, criticizes or otherwise doesn’t bow to his knee. His followers make excuses for his criminal activity.
In my opinion, he is a self-absorbed bully in need of constant praise. If some made-up syndrome is what his supporters need to satisfy why there are those who don’t capitulate to his preposterous presidency and fly his banner on our porch, just keep believing that.
I’ll stay on the side of reality.
