Letter to the editor: Trump's 'accomplishments'

Tribune-Review

In the letter “Looking back at Trump’s accomplishments” (Nov. 7, TribLive), the writer failed to mention a few more accomplishments President Trump can claim during his administration. For instance, the federal deficit. The writer pointed out the business tax cut that Trump instituted, but failed to mention the enormous federal deficit it added to — a deficit that grew at a record $7.8 trillion under Trump despite his campaign promise to lower it.

The writer described the economy as “booming” under Trump. Sure. He inherited that “booming economy,” an economy that had 76 straight months of economic growth and a 4.7% job unemployment rate the Obama administration left him. Those were much better shoes to step into than what was left for Biden. Trump played with house money during his administration until covid hit.

The writer also failed to mention the border wall Trump promised to build that Mexico would pay for; replacing Obamacare with a “big, beautiful plan” better than the present one; a revival of the coal industry, which lost jobs at a 24% rate during his four years in the White House. Oh, and his campaign nonsense that he would be too busy saving America to golf: $151 million of taxpayer money was spent jetting Trump around to his various properties golfing. Trump golfed 91 times in just his first year alone as president.

Finally, the writer left out an insurrection Trump incited because his fragile ego couldn’t accept his losing an election.
