Letter to the editor: Trump's covid 'strategy'

Tribune-Review

Letter-writer Kathleen Bollinger (“Who will get the credit for defeating covid?,” Dec. 15) asked why President Trump should share his covid-19 strategy with President Biden when Biden would “get all the credit for defeating covid-19.”

Let’s go over Trump’s strategy. First, at the beginning, he downplayed it and called Democrats’ reaction to it a “hoax.” He then told journalist Bob Woodward, “I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down because I don’t want to create a panic.”

Then he compared it to the flu and said it would “disappear” before Easter (2020) or “disappear” when warm weather arrived. And we all remember when he wanted to “hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light” and talked about using “something like” a disinfectant “by injection inside or almost a cleaning.”

Numerous times he said we are “rounding the curve.” We are now at more than 443,000 deaths. Some states have used refrigerated trucks to store bodies because morgues were full.

Medical experts, the CDC and Trump’s own coronavirus task force advised against large gatherings, yet Trump held super-spreader rallies all over the country. He mocked people wearing masks when the infectious disease experts said if everyone had worn a mask, more than 100,000 people would be alive today.

I do hope that Trump didn’t share his strategy with Biden.
