Letter to the editor: Trump's flaws better than Dems' shackles

Tribune-Review

I didn’t vote for President Trump when he won. I will now, when all polls say he’ll lose. I don’t want “fundamental transformation” of history’s fairest government. Or “Democratic socialism” that only puts lipstick on Marxism. Or $93 trillion Green New Deals (GND) that enslave generations of taxpayers.

The GND’s original co-sponsor and chief architect are Joe Biden’s respective running mate and energy adviser. Connect the dots. To fund their GND, expect your effective marginal tax rate to skyrocket from 47% to beyond the Scandinavian average of 68%. Goodbye disposable income! So long, vacations!

I like America as designed. Our Constitution is the standard for ethical treatment of governed citizens. I’m proud of the men who wrote it. Their system ultimately ended an evil as historically entrenched as slavery. Brilliance doesn’t require transformation.

Yes, Trump is boorish. But rational voters consider actions, not bluster. And progress, not personality. As for the covid-19 and George Floyd crises, Trump acted as a federalist president must. Governors and mayors who don’t understand their responsibility in America’s bottom-up, local-first political system should resign.

Sure, I wish Trump spoke more carefully about coronavirus. The same applies to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the World Health Organization and others who misled us. Far worse were dangerous Democratic governors forcing covid-19 patients into nursing homes. And media that protect communist leaders who deceived the world for months after last November’s discovery.

We all have flaws. I’ll take Trump’s over government servitude. He fights for my children’s liberty. Democrats fight only to shackle us.
