Letter to the editor: Trump's version of socialism

Woe unto them who cry “socialism” when the poor are fed — but cheer when the rich grow fatter off government largesse.

Donald Trump, self-proclaimed champion of capitalism, governed like Pharaoh: hoarding wealth, building monuments to himself and handing out borrowed treasure to his inner court. His new “Big, Beautiful Bill” is no different — trillions in unfunded tax cuts and spending that benefit the elite, while the sick, poor and foreigner are cast aside. Sound biblical? Hardly.

“For the love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Timothy 6:10) — yet Trump’s economy worships gold-plated towers, not golden rules. His $8 trillion in added debt, corporate bailouts and unchecked stimulus? That’s government control of the economy — aka socialism, just wearing a red tie.

He subsidized farmers harmed by his own tariffs. He handed out stimulus checks with his name on them. He now promises tax-free tips, while slashing food stamps and Medicaid. “They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders … .” (Matthew 23:4).

If Joe Biden proposed this, the GOP would scream Marxism. But when Trump builds golden calves from taxpayer debt, they bow.

Jesus flipped the tables on moneychangers. Today’s MAGA leaders just count the coins and call it freedom.

Trump isn’t saving America from socialism. He’s selling it, one debt-fueled promise at a time.

“He who has ears, let him hear.” (Matthew 11:15)
