Letter to the editor: Turnpike not at fault

I am not usually an apologist for the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but you have unfairly found fault with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for zapping commuters whose entrances to the turnpike were missed by the electronic detectors (“E-ZPass penalty charges irk Pennsylvania Turnpike drivers,” May 3, TribLIVE).

When the system was established, traffic signals showed a green light if your entrance had properly registered. On the few occasions where I did not see a green light, I checked my electronic record and was able to correct improper charges, and the commission always readily accepted my explanation. But the federal government made the turnpike remove these signals, so now I have no indication as to whether the turnpike computer “saw” me.

Don’t blame the turnpike for this one. Blame the Feds.
