Just like this time last year, President Biden spent a week in the Caribbean.
Back then, it was while 10,000 migrants a day were flooding to our southern border. This year (yes, still 10,000 migrants a day), while flip-flopping around the Virgin Islands, Biden has arbitrarily rubber-stamped a $147.5 million Israeli arms deal.
Authorized without congressional approval on Dec. 29, it was the same day that South Africa filed with the International Court of Justice a charge of genocide, perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinians of Gaza.
More than 20,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its Oct. 7 Gazan offensive. Of these, nearly 10,000 have been children, including 13-year-old Dina Abu Mohsen.
Her parents and siblings already lost to Israel’s indiscriminate bombings, Dina was rushed in late November to Gaza’s Nasser Hospital for an emergency leg amputation, which are now being undergone without anesthetic due to the severe shortage of medical supplies.
Dina was filmed bedside during her recovery, where she spoke with joyful determination about her plan to help injured children like herself by one day becoming a doctor.
Several days later, the Israel Defense Forces executed a tank assault on the hospital, and in an eye-blink of Merkava thunder, Dina was eliminated.
In the span of time since 1945, when Hitler’s abominable ovens were unlatched for world view, how often — Auschwitz then to Gaza now — have we avowed, “Never again”?
Dec. 29 saw Biden underwrite Israel’s commission of genocide, and he has made each of us complicit. Again.
