Letter to the editor: Vaccine distribution plan shameful

As the pandemic keeps getting worse, so does the shame. Shame on the Pennsylvania Health Department for its vaccine rollout plans.

Nobody giving the coronavirus vaccine has any vaccine to give. Web pages have been swamped with folks trying to register for a vaccination. Phone calls are going unanswered.

My doctor is affiliated with ACMH Hospital in Kittanning. However, his office is in southern Butler County. While ACMH has stopped scheduling people for vaccines because of low supply, its web page earlier had indicated appointments were being scheduled for people in Phase 1B. However, proof of residency in Armstrong County is required. Shame.

I’ve had friends and relatives who have tested positive for the virus and have had symptoms. Most have recovered. Recently, though, I’ve lost high school classmates who tested positive and have since passed away — all while waiting for a call to be vaccinated. I’d really hate to get sick and be taken to a hospital to die knowing that somewhere else in the same facility a vaccine existed that would prevent this from happening.

Maybe Pennsylvania can contact West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice for lessons on how to run a successful vaccination rollout. Maybe President Biden will be able to get the vaccine out to the public faster than his predecessor. Our lives depend on it.
