I would like to thank the many volunteers who made ShawRide IV an unforgettable experience (“Hundreds of motorcyclists turn out for 4th annual Officer Brian Shaw benefit ride,” Aug. 21, TribLIVE). Organizing a ride of this scale required hundreds of caring, dedicated individuals. My wife and I joined the hundreds of supporters who rode the route. It was our first, but not our last.

Thanks to the hundreds of folks who turned out along the way to wave flags, offer a wave and express support. Thanks to the countless police and fire personnel who manned intersections. Thanks to those motorists who kindly stopped to allow us to travel the entire route without stopping. Thanks to the individual who pulled over on Route 28 and stood outside of his vehicle, offering a steady salute.

In a time in which elected officials openly advocate the defunding of police, it is obvious this valley is rock solid behind those who serve.
