Letter to the editor: Veterans should get vaccine priority

Veterans have no preference in receiving the covid vaccine anywhere except the Veterans Administration health care system, but even this is limited to qualified veterans registered within the system. I am a relatively healthy (knock on wood) 72-year-old Vietnam combat vet with private health insurance. I’m guessing I’m not alone.

“Veteran” is not a question on any of the screening websites on which I’ve registered for pharmacies, hospitals and other vaccinators. Is it too much to ask to put us at the top of the list of every age group, behind first responders and the walking wounded of course? I hope not. Certainly there must be National Surgery Offices championing this cause.

President Biden, if this plea happens to make it to your desk, please get us out of the line of fire from this pandemic as soon as possible.
