Letter to the editor: Vote in the good, vote out the bad
I realize some people and cultures have serious problems needing mending.
Preaching to youth who have not matured and may not be properly educated, using terms such as “good trouble,” or saying it’s OK to protest and be arrested, is dangerously promoting disregard for law and order. It easily and rapidly puts childlike behaviors into the fists of powerful and often emotional people, thereby producing without justification the incredibly high probability of a physical encounter.
A 2013 American Civil Liberties Union study found five times more Black children (than white) were expelled in Pennsylvania. Children are expelled because they choose to not follow rules. And that mindset may not get corrected; jails are full of people who lived out their perceptions of right and wrong. Teaching to disobey the law is child abuse.
People are encountered in the streets by police or authorities when they don’t follow rules. You may get hurt or worse if you invoke your perceived rights when encountered by an authority figure. People put themselves and others in legal and personal jeopardy when they challenge an order, especially in the streets.
Blame is everywhere, remedy is under our noses.
Talk remedy: Vote the good in and the twisted minds out.
