Letter to the editor: Voting, bearing arms in a free country

Tribune-Review

Every legal U.S. citizen should vote. Remember, elections are not beauty or personality contests. You are voting for the kind of country you will live in.

I believe in the right to bear arms. I’m too old to defend myself and too slow to run away. My guns are my only way to defend myself and those around me.

Ask anyone who has been in the military what the most important line of defense is, and they will say your outer perimeter. Our outer perimeter is our borders. An open border weakens a country. Terrorists, gangs, criminals, sickness and drugs could be crossing our border.

Some think if you don’t like our history, you can tear down our statues and rewrite history. Wonder who’s doing that?

I spent one year and six days in Vietnam so you and I could live in a free country. I don’t want to live in a socialist (communist) country. What kind of country do you want to live in? I was brought up to work hard and earn what you have, not be penalized for being successful. “Everything for free” is a joke. Someone has to pay. Remember, once everything is free, the giver owns you.
