Letter to the editor: We can find solutions without passing blame

Tribune-Review

In the editorial “President Trump takes aim at America’s core principles” (June 2, TribLIVE), the words “core principles” stood out. The editorial had what I view as a litany of errors ascribed to Trump. I got the idea that “core values” are the responsibility of our president only.

I spent over a year (1952) as an Army medic in Korea. We were responsible for taking our patients to the MASH hospital. I witnessed a Chinese soldier lying in a bed, getting the same best care possible as all the GIs. He was treated equally as a human being. He held a small lump of cheese in his hand.

Today we are a composite of many people. We, in America, are given equal protection under the law — freedom of assembly among them. We are also given freedom of speech and freedom to do the good work of living without the fear of being attacked or losing our livelihood because our store was burned to the ground. We can voice a grievous wrong and work to “right it” in a fashion that brings us together as a people and as a country.

We live in a great country. We can bring differences together. We can come up with solutions without choosing one to blame. God bless America.
