Letter to the editor: We can, should do better than Trump
I was taken back by a comment in Albert Bianchini’s letter “Trump, Biden and China” (Aug. 20, TribLIVE). To suggest that China created and unleashed the coronavirus to unseat President Trump is unbelievable. That thought process sounds crazy to me. If he and others believe that, what other oddball scenarios do they believe?
People should look at things objectively. Yes, Trump has been a thorn in China’s side, which he should be. I do agree China needs to be held accountable for what it does and doesn’t do. Bianchini is correct in saying the U.S. has been slighted by past presidents and administrations. And any future administrations should hold China accountable. But not at the cost of American lives and livelihoods.
In my opinion, Trump has hurt a lot of working, and now not working, Americans and families; he could have handled things in a better way without the damage he has caused in this country. Instead he puffs out his chest and makes outrageous comments to make himself look good instead of doing what is best for the country.
I voted for him in 2016. I am a Democrat. I thought he would shake up the establishment, which to some extent he has. But his childish demeanor is unacceptable. I believe he has diminished our reputation around the world as a strong leader and a country to look up to. No president is perfect, but we can and should do better. He has been a disappointment on many fronts. He will not be receiving my vote this year.
