Renee Good is dead.
We know the 37-year-old Minnesota resident died as the result of gunshot wounds. We know when she was killed and where. We saw video of the incident. We saw Good seated in her vehicle and heard bits of a conversation she had with the U.S. government agents at the scene. We heard one call her an “effing (expletive)” while demanding that she exit her vehicle. We saw her vehicle’s wheels directed away from a second ICE agent who approached, and saw her turn the steering wheel to avoid contact. We saw the gunman aim his weapon and shoot at her. That sums up what we saw and heard, as recorded by witnesses to the killing.
But there is much we don’t know and quite possibly never will. President Trump, Vice President Vance and Homeland Security chief Noem had decided, before any investigation, that Good was a domestic terrorist and that her killer committed no punishable crime. Their unspoken message is that she got what she deserved for attempting to flee, fearful of the police and what might happen if she obeyed their demands.
Since the killing, we’re being asked not to believe what we saw and heard on the videos. We’re told there will be no investigation of the killer. We’ve learned local and Minnesota state authorities were being denied their proper role in investigating the killing. We’re being asked to unsee the truth and pretend this is justice in America. I refuse to do so.
