Letter to the editor: We continue to ignore reality

Tribune-Review

No one fools themselves like Americans do. We just keep living in the comfort of our normalcy bias, trying to rationalize our cognitive dissonance away. But clicking our ruby slippers together will never awaken us from this nightmare.

We have an ever-increasing national debt of $37 trillion that can never be repaid. The interest alone is $1 trillion per year. And this does not include unfunded future obligations or personal debt. But why worry, just put it on the tab.

You may think that going to the polls will effect positive changes, but it appears that the big picture never really changes much: There are always wars and rumors of wars, the U.S. dollar continues its decline after losing 96% of its value during the past century and political corruption, documented since ancient Egypt, is now at historic levels with minimal consequences.

History confirms that all fiat currencies eventually fail and every empire will collapse, but delusional Americans refuse to accept this reality. When a U.S. Supreme Court justice is unable to define what a woman is, then we have passed the point of no return. As Ayn Rand stated, “We can ignore reality, but we cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.”

I’m not a doomsayer or fear-monger, just a realist.
