Letter to the editor: We don’t need more laws, just to behave and lead by example

It is disturbing to hear the news of the day — gun violence, attacks on individuals, robberies, etc. And it usually ends up with the conclusion that there should be a law. We have so many laws that I don’t believe there is anyone who knows all the laws.

Whether there is a law or not, in daily activities, many people act as their own judge, jury and executioner, especially in normal social interactions. And that is where most of our problems start. There is a need for laws provided by a government. But I feel that the most important laws were provided for us from the prophets who relayed to us the Word of God. Whether you believe in God or not, these directives brought peace and safety.

So, if I was asked to solve the problems of the day, I would first ask people to act with humility and to dwell on the directives found in the Bible.

The world can become better, not with more laws, but with our own actions and teaching this to our youth, by our example. You’d be amazed how far kindness and humility would go to solve problems.
