Letter to the editor: We must return to godly values

Tribune-Review

The seeds of hate that were planted at Columbine in 1999 have taken root again, this time in Uvalde, Texas. Just like the killers in Columbine and all the other schools that have been attacked since, the killer premeditated his attack.

A healthy relationship between parents and children creates a boundary between the parental/marital system and the children. When children step out of line, they must be taught that there are consequences for bad behavior. Also, far too many children are growing up without fathers, which is very sad indeed. There are too many families these days where the house is full of people but nobody’s home. Children learn what they live.

Legal gun owners should welcome measures that would increase safety. In my opinion, AR-15 and AK-47 rifles should only be available for police and military. Why do those in the general population need such weapons? Also, all purchases of guns and high-capacity magazines should be placed in a database for tracking purposes.

The home is the foundational unit of our society, where children need to be taught right from wrong and taught to respect life. These horrible killings in our schools were unheard of 30 to 40 years ago when the nuclear family was still a reality. Sadly, with God pushed out, guns came in.

What we need most in our great country is a return to godly values in our schools and communities. Only then will we all realize what a gift life truly is. Anger is the seed; bitterness is the tree.
