Letter to the editor: We need a revolution of reason

Tribune-Review

Although June is recognized as Pride Month in America, an observance has taken place since 1865 on June 19 called Juneteenth. It marks a time when human beings made in the image of God were legally owned as property by rich white Christian men to work for free. In 1865 they were told they were free (a year later in Texas).

Some say now the Civil War should have never taken place. Does that mean the Supreme Court should overturn the Emancipation Proclamation?

Some also say Adolf Hitler did good things. Really? Visit the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., several times. Stop at the various museums of the Smithsonian Institution before more cuts take place.

Recently we saw the passing of Pope Francis, a great, humble humanitarian and peace maker. This year also marks the 90th year of the Dalai Lama, who visited our Seton Hill University on Nov. 11, 1998. It is impressive to see photos of Nelson Mandela at our Liberty Bell Museum.

Soon we will note our 250th anniversary. We need a second revolution of reason, sanity, universal compassion, kindness and ethics to make our country truly great again for future generations.
