On Nov. 14, 2021, I tragically lost my only son. The coroner’s office had my son; my heart raced with anxiety as I reached out for answers to questions that weighed heavily knowing that this call would irrevocably alter my existence forever.

I quickly called the coroner’s office. As the male deputy coroner answered the call, I felt a wave of fear wash over me, knowing that this was not a conversation I had ever anticipated or prepared for. When he coldly stated, “We have your son in custody,” my heart shattered into pieces. My son, just 24 years old, was gone. Desperately, I asked if I could come and bring him home, only to be met with the insensitivity of discussing funeral arrangements. The void of support at that moment was glaring; there was no compassion, no guidance offered. Instead, I was left to grapple with the unbearable loss alone, forever haunted by his words.

In January 2022, Tim Carson assumed office. My journey to understanding the circumstances surrounding Mason’s passing began with his compassionate ear. He listened to my story. His empathetic nature has not only empowered me but also countless other loss survivors to raise their voices and commemorate the memories of our loved ones. Tim goes above and beyond, remembering each of our loved ones by name. His unwavering support for the Loss Team is remarkable.

Remember, my story is just one among many; words hold significant power. Please vote for Tim Carson on May 20.
