Letter to the editor: We need eco-friendly legislation
The article “Power failure: How a winter storm pushed Texas into crisis” (Feb. 21, TribLIVE) highlights the cause and effects of this disaster and shows evidence that our country needs dramatic climate reform.
This can start with the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, which would assess a fee on fossil fuels, lowering carbon pollution; the money collected would be allocated to U.S. citizens in equal monthly shares.
So why wait? In Texas, according to the article, “While wind turbines and solar panels froze, a major nuclear plant lost half of its generation, and there were massive failures in coal, oil, and natural gas.” Let the statistics speak. Our world does not have time to wait; we need to build our way up to clean energy and steer away from the fossil-fuel industry.
When this bill is introduced, we need our representatives to continue to support eco-friendly legislation for the sake of our nation.
