Regarding the letter “Earth records hottest year ever in 2024 and the jump was so big it breached key threshold” (Jan. 10, TribLive): Earth records hottest year ever! Yawn.

The last 10 years are the 10 hottest on record and likely the hottest in 125,000 years! Ho hum.

There were 27 weather disasters in the United States that caused at least $1 billion in damage in 2024! Hmm.

Hurricane Helene was the costliest and deadliest of the year with at least 219 deaths and $79.6 billion in damage! Gosh, glad we don’t live in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina or Virginia.

Welcome 2025! It’s January, one of the wettest months in California and wildfires are already raging.

Drill baby drill!

By 2030, almost all countries will experience “extreme hot” temperatures every other year, temperatures observed just once per century in pre-industrial times.

Greenhouse gas emissions have caused climate change. Fossil fuels — coal, oil and gas — account for over 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions and nearly 90% of carbon dioxide emissions.

The Inflation Reduction Act and Carbon Fee and Dividend legislation support the transition to clean energy and account for the true cost of carbon emissions. Tell our legislators to support these and other initiatives to fix climate change.
