Though it’s nearly impossible for individual citizens to have much impact on the idiotic, partisan behavior of our elected representatives in Washington, it is possible to take a moment to recognize the actions of those who, regardless of political leanings, are out doing the jobs that are truly vital to the survival of all Americans.
Thanks to the utility personnel, pharmacy workers, store clerks, gas station attendants, medical personnel, firemen, police, military, ambulance drivers, truck drivers, volunteers and every other person heading out daily to maintain the necessities that we as spoiled Americans have come to expect.
To be fair, I know there are many in the federal and state administrations who have been working extremely hard to do what is best for the country and the state. What is noticeably sad and disgraceful, though, is there are those who are hoping for their failure, only for political reasons.
Perhaps this experience will wake us up to the notion that the real heroes are not millionaire athletes, Hollywood celebrities or partisan politicians, but the average man and woman next door, our family, friends and neighbors, who are venturing out into the high-risk areas for the benefit of the common good.
It’s time to put aside the vile, political partisanship, fed by social media and partisan media outlets, that has infected almost every aspect of our lives, and pull together as patriotic Americans have always done.
