Letter to the editor: We now have an oligarchy

Oligarchy is a form of government in which power resides with a small group of people. America’s recent presidential election has thrust the nation into a three-party system: Republican, Democrat and oligarchy. However, I believe the country is on the verge of evolving into a one-party system led by a dictator with mob-like traits.

It is no coincidence that political advisers, allies and billionaire oligarchs have suddenly gained influence within the U.S. government. In my opinion, campaign contributions from extremely wealthy business leaders and individuals have now effectively purchased the office of the president of the United States, granting them substantial political power.

This oligarchy has donated millions, even billions, of dollars to elect candidates who will serve their interests — without question. As a result of their contributions, these special-interest individuals will benefit and receive preferential treatment from the president of the United States.

To me, the office of the president has been purchased. The oligarchs, America’s third political party, now govern the country and have their bought-and-paid-for leader to power.

God help us.
