With recognition that any eligible candidate can run against another, I question the insincere mantra of “time for a change” — when it is not broken, you do not attempt to fix it just for change’s sake.

I allude to the race for district judge in our area where incumbent Judge Carolyn Bengel has served so skillfully for the past 30 years. While she runs a first-rate courtroom, her attributes as mother, daughter, mentor and community servant underscore her immense value and commitment to our communities. Whether in the schools recognizing kids as everyday heroes, participating in the Red Ribbon Campaign or acknowledging first responders or community groups, she has always displayed genuine community concern her entire career.

We already have a caring, vastly experienced professional who makes such a positive difference in so many lives. We should be grateful and assure we vote to keep Bengel, as on so many levels, there is no one who can replace her, her skill and knowledge as judge.
