Letter to the editor: Wendy Bell and KDKA's 'values'
Apparently the owner of KDKA radio, Entercom Communications, does not endorse the same set of values that it attributes to its self-proclaimed “family members.” To wit, Entercom boasted that it is the “home to thousands of voices representing Americans of all races, ethnicities, gender identity, sexual orientation, beliefs [italics mine] and ability.” (“Wendy Bell taken off the air by KDKA radio,” Sept. 4, TribLIVE).
KDKA caved to social media listeners and at least one advertiser that objected to Bell’s comments that were critical of Black Lives Matter protesters and for suggesting that park rangers “shoot on sight” anyone defacing public monuments; KDKA abruptly removed Bell from the air, stating that her comments “do not align with Entercom’s values.”
Based on KDKA’s action, I’d suggest that “beliefs” be removed from their list of “values” and that “intolerance and hypocrisy” be added.
