Letter to the editor: Westmoreland commissioners' spending
Regarding the article “Tablets for all at Westmoreland County Prison” (Oct. 25, TribLIVE): Combined with the need for the newly created position of director of elections (“Quality assurance manager hired for Westmoreland elections, pay is $80K,” Oct. 21, TribLIVE), it surely seems like the commissioners are spending taxpayer dollars as though they were “free” like loose change hanging around.
There doesn’t seem to be a need for either of these. Did we find out if other counties nearby have such a need for that kind of position?
When does budget control accountability and zero base budgeting take effect? This could have been an opportunity to lead with better control and spending on projects that would create new businesses and jobs or especially help those in need. It surely sends a message on how much the commissioners care!
