Letter to the editor: We've seen this Steelers story before

Tribune-Review

After watching the Steelers get toasted by the Bengals Oct. 16, I think it’s time to introduce the Steelers’ “crying towel” to replace the Terrible Towel. Fire Matt Canada. Teryl Austin gotta go, Najee Harris is too slow, Cam Heyward is too old, so many more we heard over and over again. We can’t fire Mike Tomlin, who has never had a losing season.

Every Christmas we see that old Jimmy Stewart movie. Just like every football season in Pittsburgh: They always end the same. There’s no truth that Art Rooney and Stewart went to school together, rumors be damned.

Year after year, Rooney tells us Tomlin always has the team in “the chase.” On this occasion I concur. Our overpaid stat-happy defense chased Bengals running back Chase Brown and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase all over the field to no avail. Both had huge games.

Both Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco (age 40) and Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (41) played well, but Flacco was the better in this “Senior Bowl.” At 66 years old myself, perhaps my hopes of an NFL career remain intact, given the penchant for Tomlin to have relics fill his roster.

Hey Art, it’s a wonderful life, but I went to bed at halftime. I know how this Steelers movie ends. We have all seen it before many times. You can’t win with Tomlin.

Ah, the life of a critic.
