Regarding the article “Pennsylvania casinos shatter record, generate $4.7 billion in revenues in 2021” (Jan. 21, TribLIVE): The Pennsylvania Lottery brought in record revenues last year, too — $1.3 billion.
I remember when Pennsylvania homeowners were promised a huge reduction in their property taxes if we voted in favor of gambling. I don’t know about other Pennsylvania homeowners, but my property taxes have gone up more than the rate of inflation over the last 20 years.
Here’s an idea for our elected representatives: Take some of those huge profits and send everyone over the age of 65 a check that we can squander on foolish things like medicine, food and utilities.
