Regarding the letter “Trump’s appeal continues to grow” (March 6, TribLive): I am curious what President Trump could have said on Newsmax (!) that would appeal to voters.
In my opinion, Donald Trump hates the military (he reportedly called those killed in war “suckers” and “losers”; he asked the father of a fallen soldier “what was in it for them”; he reportedly didn’t want disabled veterans in a military parade because “it doesn’t look good for me”; he denigrated hero Sen. John McCain and insulted a Gold Star family and Nikki Haley’s husband instead of honoring their service.).
Trump promised to be a dictator on Day 1. He promised the elimination of the Affordable Care Act to be replaced by something better. Crickets. (Now he is just promising to eliminate the ACA, putting the welfare of thousands of Americans at risk.) He continually promised a badly needed infrastructure bill but seemed to make no attempt to pass one even though the Republicans held both the Senate and House. He selfishly scuttled a bipartisan border bill, I guess just so he could use it as a campaign issue. He lost more jobs than almost any president.
He is held to be responsible for more than 130,000 additional covid deaths by the International Journal of Health by his infantile refusal to wear and promote masks and his refusal to listen to his doctor and scientific advisers.
He is rated officially the worst president by 154 members of the American Political Science Association.
Finally, I object to the headline. This letter-writer was probably already in the cult.
