Former Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner recently stated, “There is no Republican Party. There’s a Trump Party.”

So what exactly is a Trump Party? Well, since former President Trump “hijacked” the party, here’s what I think it stands for: Pushing the “big lie” that the election was stolen, even though courts throughout the land dismissed all of Trump’s ridiculous lawsuits. No matter — Trump and his Trumpers just keep lying, to the point where the lies are facts to them.

Making fun of people, spewing hatred, shunning masks during a deadly global pandemic and supporting wild conspiracy theories are some of the other disgusting things this party now seems to embrace. Plus, they have the gall to accuse the left of defunding and not supporting the police, but some member of the party had no problem attacking, injuring and killing police at the Capitol riot, one of the darkest days in America’s history.

And look at some of the rising stars of the party — QAnon believer Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Kevin McCarthy, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley — all supporters of the “big lie.” According to Trump, the Capitol rioters and these Republican lawmakers are “special people.” Really? No, I think they can’t accept losing and are nothing more than a threat to our democracy.
