Edward D. Roberts, known to his friends as Ned, was the police chief of Murrysville for many years. About 25 years ago, he and I were discussing the importance of local police departments when he said, “Police are the thin line between anarchy and a civilized society.”

While Roberts passed away years ago, his wise words have not. Over the years, I have thought many times of what he said that day, especially since anarchy has started rearing its destructive head in many of our great cities across America. I look at these burning cities, which are overwhelmingly run by Democrats, and wonder why these cities are adopting one of the mantras of the useful idiots who are doing the destruction, “defund the police.”

I ask, what sane, rational community leader would ever want to eliminate the one protection that American citizens have to protect them and their property from these anarchists? It is impossible to comprehend, other than these community leaders want to destroy America, the greatest nation to ever exist in the history of mankind, burn it to the ground and start anew with what they fantasize as a Godless utopian Marxist third-world gulag.
