Regarding Marion Sedlacko’s letter “SummerSounds doesn’t need Russian band” (May 10, TribLIVE) criticizing the choice of a Chicago cover band from Russia to perform in the 2019 SummerSounds concert series: I have regularly attended SummerSounds since the early 2000s. Gene James and the SummerSounds organization have done an extraordinary, I repeat, extraordinary, job of creating and producing the series. The bands appeal to a variety of tastes and the musicianship is invariably excellent. Amazingly, all the concerts are free.

If Sedlacko has any question as to whether James made the right choice to pay $10,000 for the band, then she should check out the crowd the night of the concert. If the weather is fair, my guess is that it will be one of the biggest crowds ever.
