Letter to the editor: Why America has lost its identity

Tribune-Review

In response to Leonard Pitts Jr.’s column “Americans have lost the willingness, ability to share a common national identity” (April 12, TribLIVE): I would argue that Pitts is your typical Democrat using projection to blame the Republicans for what the Democrats actually do. That is called projection, but I agree with his premise. It is the Democrats who specialize in identity politics. In my opinion, they want everyone divided by race to cause chaos and disruption, a tactic used against President Trump through Black Lives Matter riots.

Many would argue that America has lost its identity because we have gone from a 90% European-founded nation to 59% through immigration and low white birth rates. When I was a 2022 Republican primary candidate for Pennsylvania governor, I would argue that we must avoid identity politics and adopt what Martin Luther King Jr. said regarding judging people based on their accomplishments and not the color of their skin. If you look at the dollar bill, you’ll see the not-racist 13-star flag and an inscription, “E Pluribus Unum” — out of many, one.

Race relations in America were much better prior to the rise of social organizer Barack Obama and George Soros donating $32 billion to his Open Society Foundations nonprofit. If you want to place blame, start with those two. Some say nations need a common enemy. Maybe that will be Putin, but I say it should be the devil who loves chaos and hate, which is what identity politics promotes.
