Whenever I read another outpouring of support for Marc Fogel, it warms my heart. Then I get angry with the realization that Fogel will not be coming home anytime soon. The inconvenient truth of the case is Joe Biden doesn’t give a flying fig about Fogel, for the simple reason that Fogel checks no “diversity boxes,” and as such does not give Biden a chance to curry favor with the Democratic Party’s beloved “protected classes.”
The Biden administration has always been about “checking boxes.” VP running mate, check. Secretary of transportation, check. Supreme Court nominee, check. Press secretaries, check. Rachel Levine, check. Gutting Title IX and sacrificing female athletes on the altar of “trans rights,” check. Moving heaven and earth to free a Black lesbian basketball player (in exchange for an arms dealer known as “The Merchant of Death,”) check.
It is evident that if you aren’t a DEI asset, and can’t help Biden score political capital with any of the Dems’ preferred “identity groups,” you don’t exist. I certainly hope I’m wrong, but the Brittney Griner case shows exactly what the Biden administration can accomplish … if there is something political in it for them.
