When I was little, when people asked “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I used to answer American Gladiator, then Olympic gymnast, then architect, but my overall goal was still the same: to be able to provide for and protect my family and loved ones, to make it so that my parents would never have to work again and that my kids would be able to enjoy life.
I think that’s what we all want deep down, to make sure that our loved ones are taken care of and that the hard work we do now will pay off for the future. That means it’s time for everyone (including fixed-income earners) to pay more so that everyone can have nice things.
When I have friends and family members who are down on their luck, I’m honored to help them out and make their lives easier. It’s a sad, sad state of being when a community isn’t collectively willing to do this for itself, and that’s why my family and I are choosing a new adventure in a more familiar state. If every political yard sign costs around $25, how can we not afford a basic millage increase that is over a decade overdue?
It has been my honor to contribute to your children’s educations, your roads, your police culture and your election systems. The rest is up to you.
