Letter to the editor: Why can’t we meet in the middle?

The view from the middle is bleak! Political extremes are ruling the day. They’ve convinced people there are only two sides to every issue. America is now a place where we can no longer give credit to anyone, or anything, that is remotely associated with the “other side.”

We can no longer say someone had a great idea, or did a great job. Or say it may have been a terrible job or idea. All that can be considered is which side the idea is coming from. We can no longer look at individual people (or issues) as separate or distinct. It’s all group-think now.

Why can’t we consider a job well done as simply a job well done — or a job poorly done, poorly done — regardless of who did it? Can we stop allowing the media (and their agenda) to drag us around by the nose? Can we no longer develop our views based on proven “facts”? Perhaps not, since facts are blurred or ignored completely when they become inconvenient?

Politicians can’t be held accountable for their stupid ideas or actions, when half the population supports them regardless. Nor can they get credit for great ideas or actions, when half opposes them regardless. As history is written by the victors, the information we get too easily is written and fed to us by our media of choice.

As difficult as it is to find unbiased information, it’s not impossible. There is plenty of room in the middle, everyone. We need independent perspective back in our thinking or we’ll continue to face unending division.
