Letter to the editor: Why didn’t Bob Brooks pay for parade permit?

Regarding the article ”PennDOT policy change adds cost to Lower Burrell VFW’s Veterans Day parade” (Oct. 26, TribLIVE), about PennDOT charging to close a street for the annual parade: What disgusts me is the fact that Rep. Bob Brooks is listed as a parade participant. I asked myself, why doesn’t he pony up the $450 for the parade permit?

Members of our bloated state Legislature get paid full-time wages plus expenses and benefits for doing part-time work. When I Google Brooks, it appears he is doing quite well with his private life, so why enter the world of politics unless it is ego or other personal gain? Surely a mere 450 bucks wouldn’t break this man.

To have the traditional parade along established routes means a lot more to the veterans, their families, survivors and supporters than having him ride around in some supporter’s fancy convertible.

Yet so many voters continue to return these self-serving fat cats, on both sides of the aisle, back into office. It’s time for term limits and removal of all incumbents.
