Letter to the editor: Why do laws not apply to all equally?

We have a system in which you fill out a form to get a gun, to see if you are permitted to have one. If you lie on a federal form in any way, it was my understanding you go to jail.

Now we have the president’s son, Hunter Biden, lying on this same form, saying he didn’t do drugs. He got a gun that ended up in a garbage can near a school. There’s little or no coverage of this on CBS, ABC and NBC.

Why have laws and regulations if you don’t enforce them? Is it because laws don’t apply to the privileged upper-class people? If you or I did this, we would be locked up with little fanfare. What happens when the other criminals that did the same crime get a retrial and are let out of jail? Will we be safer in our homes when they get weapons?

Maybe the Democrats can blame the NRA or President Trump for this.
