Letter to the editor: Why don’t Republicans want to help ALL children?

The hypocrisy of Republicans concerning right to life is astounding. They are against abortion — many with no exceptions. New draconian laws threaten to punish women if they can’t prove a miscarriage is “spontaneous.” However, they are promoting socioeconomic genocide by cutting funds for WIC, school lunch programs and Medicaid, particularly for children. Federal lawmakers failed to extend a waiver to continue free school lunch programs, cutting funding by approximately 40% for the coming school year.

They claim a wide array of human rights for the unborn fetus, but once it becomes a living child, they seem to deny that child many rights to food security, health care, safe schools, education, clean air, shelter or other “luxuries.” You have to work for basic necessities in this world, and if your parents can’t afford them, regardless of the reason, then that’s the child’s tough luck.

Overall, this line of reasoning isn’t too far from the genocide of the Holocaust, but is based on your income, not your ethnicity.

Why a pro-life party would not want to help all children grow up to be healthy, well-educated and productive adults is beyond my comprehension and a waste of resources. Think about that before the next election.
