Watching the media coverage of the bridge collapse in Point Breeze, I thought the reporters did their best to provide all the information involved in this collapse, but they left out at least one piece of information.
Several years ago, our esteemed governor, Tom Corbett, was able to pass a large increase in the gas tax. This tax was to be used for our crumbling infrastructure. I have not seen much improvement in our roads and bridges. Where is that money going? Some of it has gone to pay the state police. While the state police are a priority, that is not what we were sold to get the gas tax passed.
I might be a little more sensitive to this issue since my grandkids took this bridge daily to go to school. Politicians will do anything to get what they want, and that includes being dishonest. We the electorate continue to keep these folks in office. Shame on us.
One last thought. The gambling revenue was to be used to lower property taxes. My property taxes never come down, how about yours?
