Letter to the editor: Wolf should get Pa. back to work

Gov. Tom Wolf should focus on Pennsylvania’s recovery and not on aligning with New York and other northeastern states where conditions are very different. Getting Pennsylvania back to work is critical.

Pennsylvania doesn’t have the population density of New York City. Americans are not sheep. We are capable of making our own decisions to protect ourselves and communities. We have set a dangerous precedent by so dutifully bowing to the direction of our not-so-expert elected officials, whose real objective, I believe, is to protect their political careers.

I welcome the governor’s “suggestion” to take precautions. I strongly object to being ordered to do so under penalty of law. A totalitarian government scares me far more than any virus.

Economic recovery may take years. I believe many areas of Pennsylvania and many businesses could have continued to operate. In a free society informed personal choice should be the rule. Freedoms taken by governments are difficult to regain. If this virus resurfaces in the fall and we react the same, we will certainly seal our fate.

President Trump has been the voice of reason. He restricted travel from China in January and was excoriated as being xenophobic. Now he is accused of not acting soon enough. In February New York and California officials advised that travel to their states was perfectly safe. I trust and will vote to reelect Trump this fall.
