Letter to the editor: Working to improve lives affected by Alzheimer's

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for Sen. Lindsey Williams’ unwavering support of Senate Bill 840, which seeks to establish a first-ever Alzheimer’s public health infrastructure in Pennsylvania. As a doctor of occupational therapist, I am deeply committed to improving the lives of individuals affected by Alzheimer’s; I am grateful for your dedication to this crucial cause.

Throughout my previous fieldwork experiences at VA Pittsburgh Hospital and Concordia Skilled Nursing Facility, I worked alongside Alzheimer’s patients. Observing the severe impact this disease has on the patients and their family members/caregivers highlighted our community’s daily challenges. I am acutely aware of the urgent need for coordinated care, support and resources to assist all those affected.

I appreciate Williams’ leadership on this important issue. Senate Bill 840 has addressed a long-standing gap in our commonwealth’s response to Alzheimer’s by creating a comprehensive public health approach. I am grateful for your commitment to improving the lives of those living with Alzheimer’s and their family members/caregivers.
